Porcelain crowns are dental restorations made from a durable ceramic material that mimic the color and appearance of natural teeth. They are commonly used for aesthetic and functional purposes.
At Montvale Prosthodontics, we specialize in delivering crowns that bring back functionality and appearance of decayed, damaged, and worn down teeth.
State-of-the-art material (zirconia, porcelain, gold, or metal-fused to porcelain) is used to create long-lasting, natural looking crowns.
If you're suffering from dental decay that is large, have been told your teeth are worn down/cracked, or require protection after a root canal, crowns will provide long-lasting security.
As a prosthodontist, Dr. Kim is a specialist in this exact procedure. An additional 3 years of extensive residency training after dental school gives her unique know-how to see your case more comprehensively and understand the complexities of a healthy bite.
Every detail in dentistry matters. Dr. Kim works with the best-in-class team who also values modern technology and has hand-picked every tool, material, and component used on your tooth to optimize the longevity of your dental work.
It is paramount that you feel empowered about your teeth & dental care. Dr. Kim enjoys simplifying what is complex about dentistry. She intentionally embeds time necessary (without extra cost) to fully discuss all your questions.
Your work should last and look fantastic. Other dentists love working with Dr. Kim because she quarterbacks your care and delivers with consistent excellence. Other health professionals go to her for their own dental care. Our motto is: Do dental work once, maintain it for life.
Crown is a bread & butter treatment in dentistry. It can restore the shape & function of the tooth. Unique to dentistry, dental work is the only piece of architecture that is under constant stresses of saliva and bite forces. These bite forces are where Montvale Prosthodontics really shines.
Chewing patterns and bite forces are the foundations of prosthodontics. We understand that dental work will not last if the bite forces are not finely tuned. In fact, we know that if the new crown is too big or too small, overtime, it can cause undue stresses to healthy natural teeth. Dr. Kim works closely with her team of lab technicians in the design process to ensure that the bite forces are evenly distributed with all the teeth.
“First I was cheerfully greeted by Dr Kim. Then Diana took my X-rays and was very friendly. I hadn’t been to the dentist in more than 10 years, so it we thoroughly reviewed my history. Dr Kim asked if I had time for a cleaning after we discussed the procedure for the crown which was why I made the initial appointment. She was very thorough and deliberate in scraping, cleaning and polishing my teeth with many years of build-up while making me laugh with her sense of humor. I could not BELIEVE how smooth and clean my teeth looked and felt. I was so pleased I had to give her a hug before I left! I am so thankful to have found her.”
“Dr. Kim was not only extremely professional but so kind. She spent so much time really listening to me and trying to get to the bottom of my issue. I have not met a doctor or dentist as compassionate. Her office and staff are so welcoming and pleasant.”

A cap crown is another term for a dental crown. It covers the entire tooth to restore its appearance and protect it from further damage.
Our goal is for the crowns you do with us to last a lifetime. Typically, crowns can last 10-15 years with proper care. Zirconia crowns and gold crowns, in particular, are durable and wear-resistant. If crowns are done on the front teeth, Dr. Kim may require you to wear a retainer or night guard at night to protect your investment.
Yes, crowns can alleviate tooth pain caused by decay by removing all the decay and restoring it back to health. Additionally, crowns can also support teeth that are cracked by providing a cover on all sides of the tooth and restoring the tooth's function.
A root canal is not a necessary precursor to receiving crown on a tooth. For example, worn down teeth or teeth with small fractures will benefit from a crown without root canal treatment. A root canal may be necessary when the cavity is so big that the bacteria has reached the nerve of the tooth. A root canal may also be necessary when a tooth has cracked in a certain direction into the nerve.
Yes, porcelain crowns are often used for front teeth because they provide a natural appearance and are strong enough to withstand regular chewing. When only one front tooth requires a crown, this is one of the most challenging cases in dentistry that requires excellent collaboration between our doctor & lab technician to match the shade perfectly. In this case, Dr. Kim may require the patient to go to the lab technician for a custom shade matching. Personally, Dr. Kim loves doing these challenging, ethically esthetic, fulfilling cases.
