Plaque is a sticky film of bacteria that can lead to tooth decay and gum disease if not removed. Regular professional cleanings eliminate plaque and tartar, which brushing alone cannot fully remove.

“Dr. Kim and team took great care with assessing my teeth/gums, then I received the best cleaning I ever had. Dr. Kim took the time to understand my dental history and explain in layman’s terms what exactly what going on with my teeth. Also bonus - the “goodie” bag was full of quality tooth products. I have already recommended to my sister-in-law and will make follow-up appointments for myself and my family. The office is clean and very peaceful/pretty which is just another bonus on top of a great dentist and her awesome team!”
“Having a fear of the dentist has always led me to miss appointments and not go for my cleanings and check-ups. Dr. Kim was kind and gentle and understanding of my anxiety. The entire visit went smoothly, all my questions were answered, and the office was super clean. The entire staff was very welcoming and I felt so at ease. For the first time I can confidently say I found my dental home. Can't wait for my next cleaning and check-up!”

Most people benefit from teeth cleaning every six months. However, individuals with high risk for cavities or periodontitis will require more frequent visits.
Yes, teeth cleaning removes odor-causing bacteria and food particles, significantly improving the freshness of your breath. At your hygiene visit, we can also detect any cavities which contribute significantly to bad breath.
Many patients experience a brighter smile after their cleanings. While cleaning removes surface stains, it does not bleach teeth. For brighter results, you can explore professional whitening options.
Dental cleaning focuses on removing plaque and tartar above the gumline, while deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) treats gum disease by targeting build-up below the gumline. Deep cleaning is recommended for those who have active gum disease and bone loss around the tooth. Once bone is lost, it cannot grow back but only remains stable at its new position. This makes your maintenance visits all the more critical to stabilizing the bone you do have. When we see active periodontitis (bone loss) despite classic treatment, Dr. Kim will loop in a partner in periodontics who specializes on the gums and everything under the gums.
Brushing two to four times daily with a soft/very soft bristle toothbrush, flossing, and using an antibacterial mouthwash will help keep your mouth clean. Additionally, avoiding constant snacking throughout the day or sipping drinks other than water will both help prevent cavities.
